Workshops
Clinicians are welcome to attend workshops offered by Irini. Where much professional development focuses on theoretical knowledge and the “whys” of therapy, Irini designs workshops to focus on the “how”. Clinicians will walk away with knowledge and skills that can be immediately applied to their client sessions.
Why Words “Break Rules”
English is thought to be a language riddled with confusing and inconsistent spelling patterns. Words always seem to be “breaking rules”. In this course, we will examine what’s really at play and how to share this knowledge with your students and clients, whether or not they struggle with English spelling. Participants will walk away with a deeper understanding of the English orthographic system, and know how to convey this information in a way that resonates with their students and clients.
NOTE: This is not a full course on spelling intervention and only focuses on “rule-breaking” words.
The Anatomy of Structured Literacy Intervention
In this course, participants will learn how to
organize and set up a structured therapy session for their clients who struggle with reading and spelling
progress their students to the next concept, ensuring they have filled all foundational gaps
tie in home programming with clinical goals
support extra slow learners
This is an excellent course for clinicians who are interested in providing literacy intervention to struggling readers, but are looking for some guidance to get started. We will discuss all aspects of literacy intervention and what therapy techniques can be employed to support their struggles in various areas of reading acquisition. Clinicians will walk away with the knowledge of how to conduct a therapy session for reading intervention, spelling intervention, or a combination of both.
The Road to Compositional Fluency: Written Language Intervention for the SLP
Are you working with a 3rd grader who has no idea what to write? A grade 7 student who still struggles with paragraph composition? A highschooler who has no concept of how to compose an essay, or writes a very poor one? On top of that, you’re likely working with students with dyslexia and/or dysgraphia and/or ADHD who often hate writing tasks.
Irini has been working on compositional fluency for years and has compiled her experience into this full day course that helps you identify where to start with your student and how to progress them. This is NOT a course about graphic organizers. Instead, Irini provides the strategies and tools she uses to assess and support these writers, identifies common problems and errors in writing, and provides solutions and practical application in the therapy setting.
